I have many years' experience of developing, writing and editing children's character magazines and collectibles, working with brands including Barbie, Hello Kitty, Bob the Builder, Angel Cat Sugar, Dora the Explorer, Sony Playstation's Sackboy, Gogo's Crazy Bones and Petra's Planet (a Finnish educational brand).
I have worked closely with brand managers and style guides to create perfectly pitched content for each brand, as well as researching and coming up with ideas for collectible products. I am comfortable with taking initial ideas through to research groups, test issues and national launches, writing, editing and commissioning original content for readers aged 3 to 16.
I have also worked on numerous concepts and pitches for publishing companies to present to major entertainment companies including Disney, Aardman, Hasbro and Mattel.
Back in 2015, as a side-project, the company I cofounded in 2009 developed and published a one-shot magazine called Too Cute, which sold nationally in retail in the UK. Too Cute took the Internet's obsession with cute animals and put it in print.
The magazine did well, but we knew it could do even better as a weekly magazine aimed at a younger readership, so we pitched the concept to the international publisher, De Agostini, who loved it.
Based on our original idea and using much of our original content, we developed a range of toys as well as a magazine series for children aged 3 to 7, and created five test issues for the UK and Spain.
The magazine – under the new name Cuddle Buddies (taken from a section in our original Too Cute) – launched nationally in 2018.
